AMES, Iowa -Scott Christopherson tallied a season-high 24 points and the Cyclones buried 10 3-pointers in an 81-64 win over Lipscomb Wednesday night in Hilton Coliseum. Chris Allen joined Christopherson with 20-plus points, hitting a season-high four 3-pointers en route to 23 points.
The Cyclones, who improve to 9-3 on the season, had to withstand the hot shooting of Lipscomb's and Ames native Jordan Burgason, who poured in 30 points on nine 3-pointers. Burgason now shares the Hilton Coliseum record for 3-pointers in a game with Dedric Willoughby, who hit nine vs. Kansas in 1997.
Iowa State jumped out to an early 17-9 lead before a six-minute field goal drought allowed Lipscomb to creep back into the lead. The Bison took their first lead of the game at 24-23 with a Deonte Alexander basket at the 6:08 mark of the first half.
The Cyclones then went on a 15-4 run, as Christopherson produced eight points in the rally to help ISU regain the lead. Iowa State went into the break with a 38-30 lead. Christopherson had 13 points in the first 20 minutes.
Back-to-back 3-pointers by Chris Babb and Allen helped the Cyclones mount 53-39 lead with 12:36 remaining. However, Burgason buried two-straight bombs to cut the gap to 53-45 with 11:08 left.
Iowa State then went on a 10-3 run to take a 63-48 lead with 8:50 remaining. Christopherson drilled his fourth trey in the run thanks to a nifty behind-the-back pass from Royce White.
Burgason wouldn't let the Bison go away, however, hitting his ninth 3-pointer to cut the lead to 67-59 with 5:18 left. An Allen three and a dunk by Tyrus McGee gave ISU a comfortable lead with less than three minutes left in the contest.
White ended the game with a career-high eight assists and grabbed 10 boards. Ejim also tallied his second double-digit rebounding game of the season with 10 caroms, helping the Cyclones outboard their 11th opponent this season, 41-34.
Allen and Christopherson both hit four 3-pointers each to help Iowa State make 10 or more treys for the sixth time this season.
Iowa State is back in action on Dec. 31, playing host to Mississippi Valley State at noon CST.
