AMES, Iowa - Iowa State shot 51.9 percent from the floor and freshman Percy Gibson tallied a career-high 15 points in an 84-59 victory over Prairie View A&M Tuesday night in Hilton Coliseum.
Gibson, who was making his first career start, also grabbed a career-high seven rebounds, as Iowa State improved to 6-3 on the season and snapped a two-game losing streak. Gibson was 7-of-8 from the floor.
Prairie View A&M started the second half on a 12-3 run to cut the Cyclone lead to 49-35 with 15 minutes left in the game. Tyrus McGee helped the Cyclones overcome their sluggish start in the second period by scoring seven points in a 14-4 run to increase their lead to 63-39 with 10:08 left in the game.
Iowa State jumped out to a 23-5 lead after a 13-0 run to take control of the game. Gibson posted 13 first-half points, as the Cyclones went into the locker room with a 46-23 lead at the break.
Iowa State's largest lead was 28 points with 7:43 left in the game.
McGee came off the bench to score 12 points and Chris Allen added 16 points on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc. Allen dished out seven assists, tying his career high. Allen has 12 assist and just one turnover in his last two games.
Iowa State plays host to Iowa in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series on Friday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
