AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State gymnastics team downed Southeast Missouri State 195.225-191.200 Monday night in Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones tallied a season-high score in the win buoyed by senior Michelle Browning's 39.275 win in the all-around.
AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State gymnastics team downed Southeast Missouri State 195.225-191.200 Monday night in Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones tallied a season-high score in the win buoyed by senior Michelle Browning's 39.275 win in the all-around.
Iowa State (4-5 overall, 0-2 Big 12 Conference) won all four events at the meet. Senior Celine Paulus tallied 9.875 on vault to win the title on the apparatus. Browning and Paulus both scored 9.800 on bars to tie for the crown on the event. Browning delivered a season-high 9.850 to take top honors on beam. Freshman Caitlin Brown's career-high 9.850 on floor earned her the event title.
The Cyclones had a plethora of season-high tallies during the night. Browning's 9.825 on vault tied for her top score on the apparatus. Michelle Shealy (9.775) on bars, Browining (9.850) on beam and sophomore Hailey Johnson (9.800) on beam rounded out the Cyclones who delivered season-high tallies.
Iowa State started on vault and delivered a 48.550 score. The Cyclones came into the meet averaging 48.500 on the event.
Bars was Iowa State's second event, and the Cyclones registered their best score on the apparatus this season by a wide margin. The Cyclones' 48.850 tally was a dramatic improvement from their previous season high of 48.575.
Iowa State moved to beam for the third rotation and all six gymnasts stayed on the ever-difficult apparatus. Iowa State's score of 48.925 was just off its season-best score of 48.975.
The Cyclones closed the meet on floor and had a solid 48.900 effort, just off their best performance of the year of 49.100.
Brown was named the meet's "Marie-Rae Sopper Outstanding Performance Award" which goes to the Iowa State gymnast whose performance inspires and captivates the Cyclone coaches, teammates and fans for her career-best floor performance.
The Cyclones close their home slate Sunday with a meet at 2 p.m. CST in Hilton Coliseum against Minnesota. The meet will also serve as senior night to honor the careers of Shea Anderson, Browning and Paulus.
