AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State women's basketball team (9-2, 0-0 Big 12) wrapped up its non-conference slate with a 71-54 win over the UC Riverside Highlanders (8-5, 0-0 Big West) in Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones, now winners of four-straight, start Big 12 play Saturday at Hilton against Kansas State.
How it happened…Iowa State found an offensive rhythm early as the Cyclones started off the game on an 8-0 run. Iowa State started off hot from deep as four different Cyclones hit the first four 3-pointers of the game. Iowa State netted six first-half 3-pointers with Kidd Blaskowsky and Moody netting two. Moody racked up 14 points in the first to lead all scorers as Iowa State cruised to a 36-24 lead at the half.
The Cyclones would extend their lead in the second half, pushing it to as many as 18.
Seanna Johnson scored 10 of her 18 points in the second 20 minutes along with banking in a team and season-high 13 rebounds. The Cyclones continued to net shots from downtown with 11 3-pointers on the evening.
Moody led the Cyclones with 19 points, six rebounds and five assists. Moody's five dimes marked her 70th game as a Cyclone with at least five assists. Johnson's 18 and 13 marked her fourth double-double of the season.
Game Ball Goes To...Nikki Moody. Moody made her prescence known early with 14 points in the first half for her seventh game of the season in double figures. Moody would finish the night with a final stat line of 19 points on 6-of-13 shooting, 3-of-6 from 3 and 4-of-4 from the free throw line, six rebounds and five assists.
Moody notched her 70th career game with five or more assists.
