Xiao “Smyle” Zhang Joins Women’s Basketball 2026-27 Roster

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State women's basketball head coach Bill Fennelly has signed Xiao "Smyle" Zhang to the 2026-27 roster, announced last week on social media. Zhang joins the Cyclones following time with Beijing Normal University and has represented the Chinese national team.
The 6-6 center led Beijing Normal University to the 2025 Chinese University Basketball Association League (CUBAL) Northeast Division championship, scoring 18 points with nine rebounds. She averaged 12.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.5 blocks over the season.
Zhang marks the final addition to the 2026-27 Iowa State roster, bringing the total to 13 players. She is the Cyclones' first player from China in program history.
