NORMAN, Oklahoma-The Iowa State gymnastics team competed against both the Oklahoma Sooners and the Arizona State Sun Devils in a Beauty and the Beast meet Friday at the Lloyd Noble Center. Iowa State took second place at the meet with a team score of 193.850, Oklahoma took first with 197.475, and Arizona State finished third with 193.325.
“Based off of the week of practice that we had, which was awesome, I'm pretty disappointed in the performance that we had tonight,” assistant coach Katie Minasola noted. “We're going to keep working hard and next week it's going to be different."
Floor Exercise
For the third meet in a row, floor was Iowa State's strongest event. Sydney Converse lead the team with a 9.875, her new career high. Haylee Young was close behind with a 9.850 and Kelsey Paz started off the rotation with a high-energy routine to earn a 9.800. Briana Ledesma and Meaghan Sievers both had strong routines to earn a 9.775 and 9.750, respectively. The team came together to earn an event score of 49.050.

Vault
Iowa State brought in their second highest event score of the night on vault with a 48.525. Two freshmen earned the highest event scores of the night with 9.800's, Sydney Converse and Meaghan Sievers. Briana Ledesma was the next highest of the night with 9.675. Sara Townsend contributed a 9.650 and Haylee Young put up a 9.600.
Uneven Bars
Hilary Green lead the Cyclones on bars for the third meet of this season, earning a 9.825 on her routine. Meaghan Sievers also had a strong routine for Iowa State, bringing in a 9.750 for the Cyclones. Other contributors included Briana Ledesma (9.650), Haylee Young (9.500), and Sammie Pearsall (9.450). Iowa State earned a team event total of 48.175 on the uneven bars.
Balance Beam
Kelsey Paz earned a 9.775 to break her season record on beam, leading the team on the second rotation of the meet. Alex Marasco and Meaghan Sievers both recorded scores of 9.700 or more, with a 9.750 and 9.700, respectively. Also contributing were Haylee Young and Sydney Converse to help the team to an event score of 48.100.
All-Around
Sophomore Haylee Young and freshman Meaghan Sievers both competed in the all-around competition at Friday's meet. Sievers placed third with 39.000 and Young placed fifth with 38.600.

The Cyclones will be competing in their first home meet of the season next Friday, Jan. 29. Iowa State will be competing against Lindenwood and North Carolina State at 6:30 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum.
