AZUSA, California – The Iowa State men's track and field team saw all three of its student-athletes record personal bests Friday night at the Bryan Clay Invitational. The ISU trio, who came into the meet ranked in the Cyclones' top-three for the 2017 outdoor season in the 1,500-meter run, all recorded personal best marks on the evening.
Christian DeLago led the Cyclone contingent in 3:42.46, Dan Curts was in at 3:44.10 and Zach Black crossed the line in 3:48.75. DeLago and Curts' times are the fastest by Cyclone men in the 1,500 since 2010.
The standout performance came from the redshirt senior DeLago, who dropped over three seconds off his personal best from earlier in the season. The time also puts DeLago in tremendous position to qualify for the NCAA Championships West Preliminaries to try and advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in June.
Curts has also moved himself into a good position to advance to the postseason in the 1,500 as well, as he dropped 1.8 seconds off his personal best that he set at last season's Bryan Clay Invitational.
Black, a freshman, dropped almost three seconds off his time that he ran at the Stanford Invitational two weekends ago, going under 3:50 in the 1,500 for the first time in his young career.
Up Next
Iowa State returns to the track next weekend at a pair of meets. The Cyclones will have student-athletes at the Cardinal Classic, hosted by Stanford, and the Musco Twilight in Iowa City.
