AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (8-10, 2-5 Big 12) fell to No. 4 Baylor (16-1, 6-0 Big 12) 79-50 on Wednesday night at Hilton Coliseum.
Bridget Carleton led the way, putting up 24 points on 7-of-19 shooting, to go with a team-high eight rebounds and two assists for the Cyclones.
How It Happened
Baylor raced out to a 19-2 lead over the game's first 10 minutes in a start that would doom the Cyclones' efforts. Iowa State shot just 1-of-17 from the field in the first quarter, including nine misses from beyond the 3-point arc, while the Bears put up a 14-0 run that spanned parts of the first and second quarters.
The Cyclones shook off the slow start with a better second quarter effort, led by Carleton. The forward scored 12 of Iowa State's first 14 points, to go with three rebounds and an assist, as ISU trailed 40-19 at halftime.
A strong third quarter followed, as the Cyclones emerged from the intermission with an 11-5 spurt, cutting BU's lead to 45-30 with 4:40 to play in the stanza. Freshman guard Rae Johnson scored eight of Iowa State's 17 points in the quarter, as the Iowa State narrowed the deficit to 54-36 with 10 minutes to play.
The Bears outpaced the Cyclones 25-14 in the final quarter to pull away for the 79-50 victory.
Players of Note
Bridget Carleton was outstanding once again, scoring a team-high 24 points, to go with eight rebounds and two assists. The junior has now scored in double figures in all 18 games this season.
Rae Johnson was a bright spot in the Cyclone backcourt as Iowa State's second-leading scorer with 10 points and a team-high three assists in 30 minutes off the bench.

*Bridget Carleton had 24 points, her 60th career game in double figures. She has recorded at least 10 points in all 18 games this season.
