KEY STORYLINES
- Iowa State closes a four-game homestand to start the season, the first since the 2012-13 season.
- T.J. Otzelberger, who won his 100th game in the season opener, improved to 3-0 as head coach of the Cyclones ... he looks to become just the sixth of 21 Cyclone head coaches to start their career 4-0.
- The Cyclones surpassed their win total from a season ago with their 68-60 win against Alabama State on Tuesday evening.
- The Cyclones have held back-to-back opponents to 60 points or less for the first time since early in the 2019-20 season ... opponents are shooting 38.8 percent from the field during the stretch and have made just 7-of-37 three-pointers (18.9 percent) during that stretch... ISU has forced 61 turnovers this season (20.3 tpg).
- Izaiah Brockington has dropped double-doubles in back-to-back games, the first Cyclone to do so since Tyrese Haliburton in the first two games of the 2019-20 season ... Brockington had 23 points and a career-high 13 rebounds against Alabama State ... Brockington has been elite rebounding from the guard position, grabbing 20 more boards than any other Cyclone player ... he leads the Big 12 with 10.3 boards per game.
- Freshman guard Tyrese Hunter is averaging 13 points and six assists after finishing with a career-high 19 points and six dimes against Alabama State ... he's one of two true freshman nationally averaging 13 points and six assists.
- Conditt, who has three blocks in the last two games, is the eighth Cyclone to reach 100 career blocks.
- The Cyclones have already snapped losing streaks of 18-straight games overall, eight home games and 25 games against power conference opponents.
LAST TIME OUT
- Iowa State overcame a difficult shooting night to defeat Alabama State at Hilton Coliseum Tuesday ... ISU shot just 1-for-20 behind the arc, barely extending their 460-game streak with a 3-pointer to 461 games ... Aljaz Kunc's first-half three was ISU's only of the game ... the Cyclones turned it over a season-low eight times, including just once in the first half ... as a team, ISU was 15-for-19 at the line, with Izaiah Brockington (5-for-7) and Tyrese Hunter (9-for-10) attempting 17 free throws combined ... Brockington posted a 23-point, 13-rebound double-double ... Hunter scored a career-high 19 points, including nine points in the final 1:36 of the game ... Hunter also dished out six assists to just one turnover ... Robert Jones had his best offensive performance as a Cyclone, finishing with nine points.
ISU VERSUS GRAMBLINGÂ STATE
- Iowa State and Grambling State meet for the second time ... the Cyclones won the previous meeting, 99-81, in Ames in 1988 ... Jeff Grayer (35) and Lafester Rhodes (29) combined for 64 points for the Cyclones ... Grambling was led by Joel Berry's 29 points in the loss.
- ISU is 35-1 against teams currently in the Southwestern Athletic Conference with the only loss a 2019 setback against Florida A&M when the Rattlers were part of the MEAC.
- Otzelberger is 5-0 against current members of the SWAC.
- Like Otzelberger and Cyclone assistant JR Blount, Grambling State head coach Donte' Jackson hails from Milwaukee.
