AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (3-2, 3-1 Big 12) defeated the West Virginia Mountaineers (0-6, 0-6 Big 12) 196.375-193.900 Monday night at Hilton Coliseum. Iowa State saw strong performances from a number of student-athletes en route to earning its season-high team score.
Once again, Addy De Jesus shined on the floor, setting a new career high of 9.925. De Jesus also tied her career high of 9.900 on the uneven bars. The Cyclones also saw a breakout performance by Sophia Steinmeyer on both vault and the balance beam. Steinmeyer set new season highs on both events.
"This is a really special group," head coach Jay Ronayne said. "Tonight was one of the many times they illustrated that. We did our best to immediately put the last couple weeks behind us and get right back in the gym. In those situations, you learn from mistakes and then look to the future and get the job done. That's just what we're doing. Just being back with the team is awesome."
Vault
Iowa State started off hot in their return to Hilton, earning a season-high event score of 49.225. Kelsey Boychuk and Sophia Steinmeyer both hit new season highs to win the event with matching scores of 9.875. Addy De Jesus followed close behind, notching a 9.850. Emilie Hong also earned a new career high with a 9.825 and Makayla Maxwell rounded out the scoring with a 9.800.
Uneven Bars
The Cyclones kept the momentum on the bars, posting a total score of 49.125. Addy De Jesus and Natalie Horowitz both reached career highs, tying for the event win with matching 9.900s. Not far behind were Jade Vella-Wright and Makayla Maxwell with their own matching scores of 9.800. Madelyn Langkamp rounded out the scoring for Iowa State, notching a 9.725.
Floor Exercise
Iowa State finished off strong, earning a score of 49.075 on the floor. Addy De Jesus won the event, setting a new career high with a 9.925. Madeline Diab notched a 9.850 and Andrea Maldonado closely followed with a 9.800. Rounding out the scoring were Sophia Steinmeyer and Ariana Orrego with scores of 9.775 and 9.725, respectively.
Balance Beam
The Cyclones notched a total score 48.950 on the beam. Sophia Steinmeyer tied her career high to win the event with a 9.875. In her season debut on the beam Phoebe Turner also earned a career high, posting a score of 9.850. Ariana Orrego and Addy De Jesus totaled matching scores of 9.750 and Meixi Semple rounded out the scores with a 9.725.
All-Around
Addy De Jesus was the lone all-arounder for Iowa State, scoring a 39.425 to pick up the event win.

The Cyclones are heading to DeKalb, Illinois for a battle with the Illinois State Redbirds and the host Northern Illinois Huskies. The meet is set for 6 p.m. on Friday.
