Cyclones Dominate California Baptist, 39-9

AMES, Iowa – No. 9 Iowa State (4-0, 1-0 Big 12) remained undefeated with a dominating 39-9 victory over California Baptist (1-2, 0-1 Big 12) Saturday night in wrestling action in Hilton Coliseum.

Iowa State won eight matches, receiving bonus points in seven of them, including three pins and a pair of technical falls. It was the 17^th-straight dual victory for the Cyclones, the second-longest string in the nation.

ISU had 39 takedowns to California Baptist's four.

Paniro Johnson defeated Chaz Hallmark, 12-2 at 149 pounds. Johnson led 4-2 heading into the third period, but got an escape, a takedown and a four-point nearfall to score the major decision.

Jason Kraisser wasted little time in his bout with Joey Mora at 157 pounds. Kraisser was ahead 10-0 with a pair of four-point nearfalls before securing the fall with five seconds left (2:55) in the first period.

David Carr made it back-to-back pins for the Cyclones by picking up the fall at 3:33 over Mateo De La Pena at 165 pounds. Carr was cruising before a getting De La Pena in a cradle to end the match early in the second period.

Julien Broderson major decisioned Zach Rowe at 174 pounds (10-2) and Marcus Coleman was the winner at 184 pounds with a 10-4 decision over Peter Acciardi.

At 197 pounds, Yonger Bastida dominated Elijah Sobas in a 22-7 technical fall victory. Bastida had eight takedowns in the match. Sam Schuyler recorded ISU's third fall of the day by pinning Chris Island at 4:18.

Freshman Casey Swiderski won ISU's final match, 28-13, over Edison Alanis at 141 pounds. After giving up an early takedown to Alanis, Swiderski registered three first-period takedowns to take control of the match. He notched 11 takedowns in the match for the technical fall.

Iowa State is back in action next Sunday (Nov. 20) vs. Grand View in Humboldt.
