ISU Posts Season High in GymQuarters Invitational Victory

ST. CHARLES, Missouri – The Iowa State gymnastics team (4-4, 1-1 Big 12) placed first in the GymQuarters Invitational, scoring a season high 196.325. They defeated Illinois State (195.175), Lindenwood (194.400), and Southeast Missouri State (193.075).
The Cyclones earned a season high floor score of 49.275, led by a 9.950 from Maddie Diab. This is a career high for Diab, and only the 37th score of 9.950 on floor in school history. She is also the 12th person in school history to post a 9.950 or higher on floor. The team also earned a season high event score on bars, this time led by a pair of 9.900s from Hannah Loyim and Laura Cooke. Both scores were career highs.
"The way we've been incrementally getting better over the past couple of weeks is amazing," said head coach Jay Ronayne. "It's gratifying to know their hard work is paying off at a critical time in the season. We're at the halfway point where we have the opportunity use the scores from here on out to push us forward. I think we're on the right path and it's an exciting time."
Floor
The Cyclones earned a season high team score of 49.275 on the floor. Maddie Diab led the team and earned the event win with a career high 9.950. Andrea Maldonado tied her season high with a score of 9.875. Hannah Loyim and Laura Cooke closely followed with matching scores of 9.850. Loyim's score was a career high. Kelsey Boychuk rounded out the scoring with a 9.750.
Vault
Iowa State started on vault, earning an event score of 49.150. They were led by matching scores of 9.875 from Emilie Hong and Kelsey Boychuk who both tied their career highs. Makayla Maxwell scored a 9.850 and Ariana Orrego and Kaia Parker earned matching scores of 9.775 to finish out the scoring for the Cyclones.
Bars
The Cyclones set a new season high on bars, earning an event score of 49.075. They were led by Hannah Loyim and Laura Cooke who both earned career high 9.900s. They were followed by Ana Palacios who tied her career high of 9.850. Maya Ford earned a 9.725 and Makayla Maxwell scored a 9.700 to round out the scoring.
Beam
Iowa State scored a total 48.825 on beam, led by a season high 9.825 from Sophia Steinmeyer. Hannah Loyim and Loganne Basuel followed closely behind with scores of 9.800 and 9.775, respectively. Kelsey Boychuk tied her season high with a 9.750 and Alondra Maldonado set a new career high with a 9.675.
