DENVER, Colorado – The Iowa State gymnastics team (9-10, 1-1 Big 12) placed fourth at the Big 12 Championships with a score of 196.100. They fell to No. 1 Oklahoma (198.200), No. 15 Denver (197.250), and West Virginia (196.650).
The Cyclones once again saw dominant performances from Maddie Diab and Makayla Maxwell. Diab earned a share of the Big 12 floor title, earning a 9.950 for the third time this season. This makes her the seventh gymnast in ISU history to win floor at the Big 12 Championships. Maxwell also scored a 9.950 on vault, her fourth consecutive score of a 9.900 or better, to place second on the event. She is only the second gymnast in school history to earn a 9.950 on vault in the postseason. Sophia Steinmeyer also earned a podium finish, tying for third on vault with a 9.900.
Vault
Iowa State scored a 49.225 to close out the meet. Makayla Maxwell earned a 9.950 to place second on the event. Sophia Steinmeyer continued her streak of strong scores with a 9.900. Kelsey Boychuk posted a 9.850 while Josie Bergstrom and Emilie Hong closed out the scoring with scores of 9.775 and 9.750, respectively.
Floor
The Cyclones posted a total 49.150 on floor, led once again by Maddie Diab. Diab scored a 9.950 to tie for a portion of the Big 12 Championship. She was closely followed by Andrea Maldonado who earned a 9.900. Hannah Loyim posted a 9.850 while Kelsey Boychuk scored a 9.800. Ariana Orrego rounded out the scores with a 9.650.
Bars
The Cyclones notched a score of 48.875 on bars, led by a 9.850 from Laura Cooke. Ana Palacios scored a 9.775, and Makayla Maxwell, Hannah Loyim, and Loganne Basuel all earned matching scores of 9.750.
Beam
The Cyclones scored a total of 48.850 on beam, led by matching 9.800s from Meixi Semple and Josie Bergstrom. Sophia Steinmeyer notched a 9.775, while Loganne Basuel followed closely with a 9.750. Hannah Loyim finished the scoring with a 9.725.
All-Around
Hannah Loyim was the lone all-arounder for the Cyclones, earning a score of 39.050.
