AMES, Iowa – No. 16 Iowa State (1-0) opened the 2025-26 season with an 88-50 victory over FDU (1-0) Monday night in Hilton Coliseum. It was ISU's 36th-straight non-conference win in Hilton Coliseum, the sixth-longest streak in the nation.
Milan Momcilovic was on fire in the season-opener, pouring in a career-high 29 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the field. Momcilovic also set a career best with seven 3-pointers, tying for the 10th most 3-pointers made in a game by a Cyclone.
Tamin Lipsey, who missed the two exhibition games with an injury, showed no signs of rust with 18 points, five assists and five steals. It was Lipsey's sixth 5-steal game of his career, tying for second in school history.
Joshua Jefferson added 14 points and grabbed a game-high 10 boards, his 10th career double-double as a Cyclone.
The Cyclones never trailed, led by as many as 44 points, forced 18 turnovers and shot 52.2 percent from the field in the decisive victory.
How it Happened
Iowa State raced out to a 17-5 lead behind six points from Lipsey and five from Momcilovic. ISU held FDU to 2-9 of shooting and forced four turnovers to take control early.
Momcilovic stayed hot, firing in two more treys to push the Cyclone lead to 31-11 with 8:34 remaining in the opening period.
A Lipsey lay-in at the buzzer capped off an 8-0 Cyclone run to end the half, as ISU went into the break with a 45-19 advantage. Momcilovic had 15 first-half points and the Cyclone defense flustered the Knights, turning them over 13 times in the first 20 minutes.
The lead ballooned to 56-21 after the first media timeout of the second half. Momcilovic hit two more 3-pointers and freshman Killyan Toure, who became just the 26th rookie to start in a season-opener, buried a trey in an 11-0 run.
Iowa State maintained a 30-point cushion for the majority of the second half and held a 77-35 lead with 6:50 remaining.
Key Performer
Milan Momcilovic had one of his best shooting performances of his Iowa State career. The junior made shots from all over the floor, hitting 11-of-16 from the field and 7-of-10 from downtown en route to a career-high 29 points. His seven treys made ranks in the top-10 in the school's single-game annals and moved him to No. 13 in career 3-pointers made at ISU with 130.
