CARLSBAD, Calif. - The Iowa State women's golf team climbed six spots on the leaderboard, while cutting 12 strokes off their first round score, Saturday at the NCAA Championships. Ranked 29th in the country, the Cyclones have moved up to 22nd in the team standings, while four of the five players moved up on the individual leaderboard as well.
Pammy Chookaew led the Cyclones in the second round, as she shot an even round 72. After back-to-back bogeys to start her round, she added birdies on the fourth and fifth holes, along with two more on the back nine. Chookaew enters the third round at five-over par, as she moved up 44 spots on the leaderboard to 67th.
Nichakorn Pinprayoon was just one over par for the round, as she moved up 30 spots to 93rd. She tallied three birdies on the day, including two on the back nine, as she sits seven-over par through two rounds.Â
Keeley Marx shot a two-over 74 in the second round, as she moved up 11 spots to 67th on the leaderboard. Marx started her day with a birdie, while also adding another one on the 14th hole. Marx is five-over par through two rounds.Â
Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn shot a three-over 75 in the second round, moving up six spots to 117th overall. Chul-Ak-Sorn had a birdie on the par 3 16th hole. She sits nine-over par through two rounds.Â
Alexandra Vidal shot an eight-over 80, as she is 137th on the leaderboard. She is 12-strokes over par through two rounds.
No. 1 Stanford took over the team lead, shooting a 278 in the second round. At 571, the Cardinal hold a five-stroke lead over No. 11 Northwestern. Mississippi State's Avery Weed, ranked No. 39 in the country, has a two-stroke lead on the individual leaderboard at seven-under par.Â
The third round of the championship is on Sunday. Following Sunday's round, the top-15 teams and nine individuals not on an advancing team will be determined. That is followed by a final day of 18 holes of stroke play (Monday) to determine the top eight teams that will advance to match play as well as the 72-hole individual champion.
Iowa State will tee off at 2:45 p.m. (CT) on Sunday for the third round.
