AMES, Iowa – Iowa State men's golf head coach Andrew Tank has announced the signing of Jackson McCommon, a transfer from Memphis.
"I'm excited for Jackson to join the Cyclone Golf Family," Tank said. "He's going to play a big role in our success, and I look forward to helping him develop as a player and person."
McCommon played two years for the Tigers and will have two years of eligibility at Iowa State. In his second year of competition, he played in nine events for Memphis. McCommon finished in the Top 25 in four of the nine events, including a 10th place finish at the GMAC Invitational, where he shot a six-under par. McCommon turned in his best career 54-hole score at 210, while also tallying his best career 18 with a 67 at the GMAC Invitational. He also had a 17th place finish at the Bearcat Invitational to open the season.
"First and foremost, I chose Iowa State because I was excited to reunite with Coach Pearson, and then after talking with Coach Tank, I felt even more so that it was going to be the best fit for me," McCommon said. "The world class practice facilities that Iowa State offers were also a huge draw for me, as well as the opportunity to play in the Big 12."
As a freshman, McCommon appeared in two events, while also earning AAC All-Academic honors.
"I am excited to be a cyclone because of the immense community support for the school and the loyal fan base for the athletic programs that I have witnessed from afar for many years," McCommon added.
A native of Memphis, McCommon was a four-year letterwinner in golf and one year in baseball at Houston High School. He earned a 10th place finish at the state championship, while being selected to the Tennessee Junior Cup team as a senior. In 2020, he was a finalist for the Daily Memphian Boy's Golfer of the Year.
