The Hawkeyes clawed their way back after falling behind by seven, coming within two at 17-15 to cause an ISU timeout. The set was then brought to a tie at 22s, while Goolsby quieted the crowd with her fourth kill to deny Iowa flipping the lead. That kill was assisted by Brandt, her 13th of the match to give her assist No. 3,000. ISU pressed on to take the 1-0 match lead with an opening set score of 25-23.

Iowa State reached the media timeout ahead 15-10 after three-straight kills by Goolsby, and the Cyclones took over from there extending the scoring run to 10 to lead 22-10. ISU went on to win it 25-13 hitting at .414 in the frame.
SET THREE
The home team put the first four points on the board, and would reach 10 points as the Cyclones held three. Iowa State answered taking four straight including back-to-back aces by Ava Martin as Iowa called a timeout. An ISU block out of the timeout brought things back within two as the run stretched to five, and the Cyclones continued to battle as they tied it at 16s. Iowa remained up at 20-17, but a Goolsby kill and ace again made it a one-point set. Iowa pressed on to extend the match by a set score of 25-21.
SET FOUR
The set opened with five ties as the scoreboard read 6-6, and Iowa went on to run ahead by six (15-9) causing an Iowa State timeout. ISU came out firing following the timeout, taking the next four on three kills and a block. Iowa kept the lead, but following a 45-second rally Iowa State tied it 19-19. Another tie at 20s followed, but Iowa forced a fifth ending the set on a run of four (25-21).
