TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA – Iowa State Swimming & Diving finished second this weekend in the Florida State Invite. The Cyclones capped off a memorable invitational with Grace Swoboda having another record-breaking performance.
How It Happened
Grace Swoboda made her mark once more this weekend by setting a new school and meet record in the 100 Breast with a time of 59.65 seconds, passing her own record set last season. Swoboda now owns the all-time top five times for Iowa State in the 100 Breast and has the only sub 1-minute score in school history in the event.
"It's an amazing feat and we could not be more proud of her and her hard work," said head coach Matt Leach.
Today was successful for the freshmen, as well. The 200 Fly was eventful for Asia Salvato, winning her first collegiate event, timed at 2:03.04. This time puts Salvato ninth on the all-time performers list for the event.
Freshmen Mariana Caldeira and Claire Dobrydney added to the point tally in the 100 Free with a third and fourth place finish, respectively, and Caldeira earned fourth place in the 500 Free, receiving 5 points.
Sophomore Carlotta Gazzola also contributed in the 500 Free, finishing in third place and earning 6 points.
In the 50 Fly, seniors Emma Kuhn and Keirlyn Mullica finished third and fourth, scoring 11 points for the Cyclones.
Kuhn would continue to gain points in the 200 IM with sophomore Piper Hagen, scoring 12 points by Kuhn as a runner-up and Hagen in fourth.
Hagen then went on to place third in the 200 Back with junior Megan Marquardt beside her in fourth, netting another 11 points.
In diving, Iona Moffat and Maggie Bendell continued their success on the 3-meter, with Moffat finishing runner-up and Bendell in third.
"We are going to continue to work aggressively but the energy is there," said head coach Matt Leach. "We are very happy with our program and ready to get to back to Ames and get back to work. Go Cyclones!"
