TUCSON, Ariz. – Iowa State (2-13, 0-10 Big 12) fell to No. 39 Arizona (14-8, 5-3 Big 12) by a score of 4-2, Friday afternoon. The Cyclones drop their 11th straight match with the loss.
In doubles, ISU clinched its second doubles point in a row, via a thrilling victory on Court 3. Mari Paz Alberto Vilar and Ashlee Narker were the first doubles pair to get a win, taking a 6-3 victory on Court 1. Arizona came back with a win of their own on Court 2, forcing a winner-take-all for the doubles point on Court 3.
Just like Sunday against Houston, the freshman duo of Alicia Dale and Gabriella Kellner came through, taking a 7-6 (6) victory to clinch the doubles point for the Cyclones.
In singles, the Wildcats won matches on Courts 2 and 6 to take back the lead, before Julia Camblor defeated Tanvi Narendran, 6-3, 6-3, on Court 4 to tie things back up at 2. But the Cyclones came up short on Courts 5 and 1, allowing Arizona to clinch the match, 4-2. Stanislava Shulzhenko had a 6-5 lead in the final set when the match was called.
The Cyclones will be back in action Sunday, as they complete the Arizona swing against No. 16 Arizona State at 2 p.m.
