Six Cyclones Named NWCA Scholar All-Americans

AMES, Iowa – Six Cyclones – Yonger Bastida, Anthony Echemendia, Rocky Elam, Garrett Grice, Kane Naaktgeboren and Vinny Zerban – were named Division I Scholar All-Americans by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Wednesday.
These exceptional student-athletes have excelled both on the mat and in the classroom, meeting one of the following criteria:
- NCAA All-American and 3.00 GPA
- National Qualifier and 3.2 GPA
- Conference Qualifier and 3.5 GPA
- 15 matches with 60% win record and 3.5 GPA
Elam is now a three-time NWCA Scholar All-American while Echemendia receives the second honor of his career.
Iowa State has six NWCA Scholar All-Americans for the second-consecutive year, marking the first time in program history six Cyclones have been honored in back-to-back seasons.
