COLUMBUS, Ohio - Iowa State seniors Paul Beauvy and Zach May wrapped up their opening round today at the NCAA Columbus Regional.
Beauvy shot a 72 (+1), placing himself in a tie for 11th and one stroke off from the top-3. The Saint-Alban, France native started the day with three bogeys in his first five holes, but birdied Holes 6 and 17 to climb back to one-over par. Among the golfers who are not apart of teams currently in the top-5, Beauvy is tied for second, putting himself in good position to qualify for the NCAA Championship, where he will need to be the top individual not among the five teams advancing. Beauvy finished the day in the top-10 in pars (13, T7th), Par 3 scoring (E, T8th) and Par 4 scoring (+1, T10th).
May carded a 75 (+4), tying for 42nd after the first round. May bogeyed Holes 2 and 3 to start his round, then birdied Holes 6 and 7 to get back to even-par, but bogeyed four times in his final 11 holes to finish the day four-over. May is four strokes behind the low individual not amongst the top-5 teams, but he has plenty of golf left to play to climb up the leaderboard.
May will tee off for the second round tomorrow morning at 8:20 a.m. CT, with Beauvy scheduled for the final tee time of the day at 9:04 a.m. CT at the OSU Golf Club in Columbus, Ohio.
