AMES, Iowa – Iowa State honored 29 seniors while Alec Carr took down the 110m hurdles program record that stood since 1997.
Carr put up a blazing 110m hurdles time of 13.55 in prelims, a personal record by .18 seconds and .01 off the ISU record. That time stood until the final where the senior went 13.48 to take down the 29-year-old record set by Jason Woods. Carr also owns the 60m hurdles school record.
Carr now ranks 18th nationally and 10th in the West region, with the top 48 from each region moving onto NCAA West Prelims.
The women's 1,500m was a big race for the Cyclones as numerous hit all-time top 10 ISU performances and personal bests. Mercy Kibet took the win in 4:15.32, the fourth-fastest performance in school history, while Maelle Porcher hit a PR of 4:17.11 to now rank fifth in Iowa State history. Riley Beach also hit a personal best with 4:19.76
Bella Heikes had a season best and Josie Baker clocked a PR to take sixth and seventh.
For the men in the Jeff Myers 1,500m, Devan Kipyego finished in a season-best 3:39.53 for the win. Kipyego's PR of 3:39.37 ranks seventh on Iowa State's elite list.
The steeplechase ended the night, with the Cyclones sweeping the event. Joash Ruto won the Brian Vincent 3,000m steeplechase in 8:31.87 and McKinley Wheeler won for the women in 10:58.91.
Running events began with hurdles prelims, where freshman Emma Havighurst topped the competition with 13.41w, the fastest prelims time by .56 seconds. Havighurst then went on to take the victory with a wind-legal 13.69.
In the men's 800m, Emanuel Galdino posted the winning time of 1:47.05 for an outdoor PR. The time is .08 seconds off the program all-time top 10 and .03 seconds off Galdino's all-time best.
Brooklyn Sandvig tied her PR that ranks second in school history with a 100m of 10.48 to take second in the final. The program record that was set in 2000 is 11.47. Sandvig ran 11.50 in her prelim.
Sandvig returned for the 200m, clocking a season-best 23.64. Karynne David hit a PR of 23.90 to improve her time at No. 5 in Iowa State history.
Senior and first-year Cyclone Justice Miller took the javelin victory with another mark over 200 feet, throwing 209-7 (63.89m). Multi-event athletes Tristan Rheingans and Cooper Spurgeon hit PRs in the event.
Next week postseason begins with Big 12 Championships. Conference is hosted by Arizona and competition runs from May 14-16.
