AMES, Iowa – Iowa State dropped its first match of the season Saturday, as Georgia Tech downed the Cyclones 3-0 (23-25, 20-25, 17-25).
The Yellow Jackets hit .229 on the day, while holding the Cyclones to just .093. Georgia Tech doubled the Cyclones in blocks, tallying eight on the day.
Nayeli Ti'a led the Cyclones with 12 kills, while Daaliyah Kemp added six. Ava Martin led the Cyclones with 28 assists. Rachel Van Gorp had a team-high 11 digs, while Mesaiya Bettis and Martin added six and five, respectively.
SET ONE
Neither team led by more than three in the opening set, as Georgia Tech battled back to take the first set 25-23. The Yellow Jackets scored three-straight points to take a 23-21 lead, but the Cyclones responded with back-to-back points to tie the set and force a timeout. Georgia Tech scored the final two points for the set win. Nayeli Ti'a had seven kills in the opening set.
SET TWO
Georgia Tech jumped out to a 4-2 lead and never trailed in the second set, as the Yellow Jackets went up 2-0 by taking the second set 25-20. An ace by Macie Lupkes tied the set at 11-11, but the Yellow Jackets responded with six-straight points and never trailed again. ISU cut the lead to 21-20 before Georgia Tech scored the final four points of the set.
SET THREE
The Yellow Jackets used an 8-0 run to go up 18-8, forcing the Cyclones to use both timeouts during the run. ISU cut the lead to 22-16 before Georgia Tech closed out the 25-17 victory.
