Cyclones Climb Leaderboard at Bearcat Invitational

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Iowa State men's golf team climbed six spots on the leaderboard on the final day of the Bearcat Invitational, turning in an 11th place finish. ISU shot a six-under par 278 in the final round, the second best round of the day in the field.
Senior Dianchao Wu turned in his best performance as a Cyclone, as he tied for eighth with a 209 (-4). It was his best 54-hole score as a Cyclone and his first Top 10 finish of his career. He shot a 69 in the final round, his second-straight round in the 60's, matching his total from last season. Wu had three birdies on the day, including two on the front nine.Â
Freshman Ben Wheeler finished in a tie for 36th in his collegiate debut, tallying a 215 (+2) over the 54-holes. His 71 in the final round included four birdies. Senior Jackson McCommon matched his career-low, while firing his best round as a Cyclone with a 67 in the final round. He tied Wheeler for 36th with a 215 (+2). He finished the round with four birdies, giving him 39-straight holes at par or better that includes seven birdies.Â
Junior Drew Hensen and senior Owen Sawyer tied for 73rd with a 221 (+8) for the 54-holes. Hensen shot a 72 for the second-straight day that included six birdies. Sawyer shot a 71 for the second-straight day, adding two birdies to his total on the day.Â
Liberty won the team title with an 837, edging TCU by three strokes. TCU's Cameron Kuchar and Liberty's Michael Lugiano tied for medalist honors with a 204.Â
Iowa State returns to action this weekend, heading to the Gopher Invitational in Indpendence, Minn. The two-day event is scheduled for Sunday and Monday.Â
