AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (4-2, 0-0 Big 12) fell in three to Iowa (4-2, 0-0 Big Ten) in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series. Set scores on the night stood at 20-25, 21-25, 23-25.

Iowa State played in front of a crowd of 4,665, the sixth-largest volleyball crowd in Hilton history.

ISU led in kills 46-41, but was outhit .230-.287 on the night. Ava Martin had her second double-double of the season with 14 assists and 10 digs. Rachel Van Gorp led the game with 16 digs.

SET ONE

Lilly Wachholz hit back-to-back kills before putting up a block as ISU took a lead of 3-1. Wachholz then put the scoreboard at 4-2 on her third kill on as many swings, but exited the game on the next play after injury. ISU hit 10 on a Nayeli Ti'a kill to take the lead, but Iowa then took a run of four to go up 13-10. With Iowa up 18-15, D'Aaliyah Kemp and Ti'a hit kills to come within one. ISU served its sixth error to bring the Hawkeyes to set point and after a Mesaiya Bettis kill fought it off once, the visitors took the set 25-20.

SET TWO

The Hawkeyes ran ahead 8-2 to start, and reached 10 with the Cyclones holding five as ISU called the early timeout. Iowa hit 15 first (15-11) after another ISU service error, while Iowa State came back within three at 19-16 after winning a long rally on a Nayeli Gonzalez kill. Iowa remained up, taking the set 25-21despite hitting at .306 in the set.

SET THREE
Mesaiya Bettis put down three early kills to give ISU a lead of 5-4. A Gonzalez kill would spark a 3-0 run to put ISU up 9-6 and after an Iowa point, Alea Goolsby delivered her fifth kill without an error. Another Goolsby kill broke up a Hawkeye run of four to tie things at 11s. Bettis then went back-to-back to total five kills in the set and knot the score 13-13, but Iowa would reach the media timeout up 15-13. Gonzalez tied the score at 17 with a kill to cause an Iowa timeout, and another Iowa timeout came as ISU tied it 21-21. Iowa regrouped, going on to win the match with a third set score of 25-23.
