NCAA Qualifier (at-large) as a true freshman … entered the season expecting to redshirt but was thrust into the starting role after a season-ending injury to Yonger Bastida … registered a 24-15 record, finishing with 15 bonus-point victories (nine pins, five tech falls, one major decision) … led the team in pins (9) … tallied six ranked wins, including two top-15 victories … went 8-7 in dual action … placed fifth at the Big 12 Championship and logged back-to-back pins to start his tournament … showed remarkable improvement throughout the season … defeated No. 14 Lance Runyon (UNI) twice in the last month of the season after suffering a 2-0 loss to the Panther earlier in the season … clinched a dual victory for No. 14 Iowa State over No. 11 South Dakota State in the final match with a come-from-behind 8-7 decision over No. 26 Luke Rasmussen … won the Cyclone Open thanks in part to a 6-3 win over No. 18 Seth Nitzel (Missouri) … registered 37 takedowns and allowed 16.
