Redshirted his initial season at Iowa State… pieced together one of the best freshman campaigns of an redshirting freshman in the nation… went 25-5 with all five of his losses coming to 2017 NCAA Qualifiers, three of which were All Americans… finished runner-up at the Dave Schultz Memorial International (Freestyle) and was the top American finisher at his weight class… defeated NCAA All Americans Alan Waters and Josh Kindig at the tournament… finished in the top-5 at the Midlands Championships (5th), UNI Open (2nd), Michigan State Open (2nd), Harold Nichols Cyclone Open (3rd) and Grand View Open (1st)… became the third Cyclone since 1982 to finish in the top-5 at the Midlands Championships as a true freshman… won 15 of his 25 matches by bonus-point margin with one pin, eight technical falls and six major decisions.
