Michael Naperalsky, an experienced and respected coach in the strength and conditioning field, came to Iowa State in summer 2024 as Director of Strength and Conditioning for Olympic Sports following eight seasons at Louisville.
At Louisville since 2016, Naperalsky served as assistant director of sports performance focusing on the assessment, programming and coaching to minimize injury risk while maximizing athletic development.
Prior to Louisville, the Granger, Indiana, native, was a strength and conditioning coach with U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association from 2010-16 after a one-year stint as assistant director of athletic performance at the University of Montana.
During his professional career, Naperalsky has supported world-class athletes that have won three Olympic medals, six world championship medals, 16 X-Games medals and 93 World Cup podium efforts. At the collegiate level, his athletes won an ACC team championship and 11 ACC individual championships, while one was crowned and NCAA individual champion and 11 reached NCAA All-America status.
Naperalsky was a staff member at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia and has worked with athletes from more than 20 different countries during his career.
His certifications include master strength and conditioning coach (CSCCa), strength and conditioning coach certified (CSCCa), registered strength and conditioning coach with distinction (NSCA), certified strength and conditioning specialist (NSCA), level 1 coach (USA Weightlifting) and certified exercise physiologist (American College of Sports Medicine).
He earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Ball State in 2006 and his master’s degree in health and human performance from Montana in 2009.
