IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Seneca Wallace passed for 361 yards, threw for a score and ran for another as Iowa State rallied to beat Iowa 36-31 Saturday night.
Iowa State (3-1) scored three touchdowns in the first 10? minutes of the second half and added a safety to erase Iowa's 24-7 halftime lead and beat the Hawkeyes for the fifth straight time.
Iowa (2-1) lost three fumbles in the second half, all of them leading to Iowa State points, and also lost two key players.
Fred Russell, who had rushed for 133 yards in 15 carries and scored on a 46-yard run, went out early in the second half with a bruised left shoulder. All-Big Ten safety Bob Sanders left later in the half with an undetermined foot injury.
Iowa State also trailed No. 5 Florida State by 17 at halftime in its opener and fell just short, losing 38-31.
The Cyclones completed the comeback this time, taking advantage of two critical fumbles by Iowa quarterback Brad Banks and getting solid play from Wallace, who finished 23-of-37 with one interception.
Once Iowa State had the lead, Adam Benike secured the victory with fourth-quarter field goals of 36 and 38 yards. Iowa State recovered an onside kick and ran out the clock after Banks' 20-yard touchdown pass to Maurice Brown cut the lead to five points with 1:23 left.
Iowa State drove 75 yards in nine plays to start the second half, Wallace scoring on a 5-yard keeper. Four plays later, Banks lost the ball as he was bringing it up to pass and JaMaine Billups recovered for Iowa State at the Iowa 33.
Four runs by Hiawatha Rutland took the ball to the 7, and Wallace hit Jamaul Montgomery on a quick slant for the touchdown, cutting the lead to 24-21.
Tim TeBrink knocked the ball from Banks on Iowa's next series and fell on it at the Hawkeyes' 20. Wallace hit Lane Danielsen for 19 yards and Joe Woodley dove in for the touchdown, giving Iowa State a 28-24 lead.
When Jermelle Lewis fumbled the ensuing kickoff, Iowa had to start from its own 5 and Jeremy Loyd smothered Aaron Greving in the end zone for a safety on the first play.
Iowa State rushed for only 85 yards and had to rely almost entirely on Wallace. He often operated out of the shotgun and either passed or ran it himself. He pulled it off by picking apart Iowa's secondary with passes underneath the Hawkeyes' soft coverage.
Russell sprinted 46 yards for his touchdown on the second play of the game, giving Iowa its first lead in the series since a 63-20 victory in 1997, the last of 15 straight over the Cyclones.
Iowa State tied it on a 6-yard touchdown run by Rutland, three plays after Danielsen got behind the defense and hauled in a 60-yard pass from Wallace.
Iowa regained the lead on Nate Kaeding's 40-yard field goal, his ninth straight, and Maurice Brown beat Atif Austin on a post route to catch a 50-yard touchdown pass from Banks.
Antwan Allen's end zone interception ended an Iowa State drive and led to Lewis' 10-yard touchdown run through a huge hole in the left side, making it 24-7.
