AMES, Iowa -- The No. 6 Iowa State women's gymnastics team marked the school's highest team score ever when they defeated the Minnesota Gophers (197.625-195.650) at Hilton Coliseum Sunday afternoon. The Cyclones are now 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the Big 12 conference.
ISU swept the all-around competition with Laura-Kay Powell in first with a career-high 39.625. This is the highest score by any Cyclone gymnast in the all-around so far this season. In second place was Janet Anson, who also marked a career high, with a 39.60. Dethloff took third with 39.50.
On the vault, Anson and teammate Susan Stock shared first-place honors (9.925). Stock marked a career-high in the event. Stock received the Mari-Rae Sopper Award for Outstanding Gymnast of the meet for her flawless performance on vault. In third were Powell and Gopher Carolyn Yernberg (9.875).
Head coach K.J. Kindler said, "I'd say the high-point of the meet was Susan on vault. She has been in and out of the vault lineup all season, but we stuck her in at the last second today and she came through for us in a big way."
