AMES, Iowa -- Cyclone Sophomore Erin Dethloff marked the highest-ever all-around score in school history Friday night to boost the Cyclones to their second win in the 2004 season over intrastate rival the Iowa Hawkeyes (197.575-195.650). This notches the second-highest score by ISU this season.
Head coach K.J. Kindler said, "Our score was the biggest thing tonight, it'll really bring us up in the rankings. This team has been capable of this all season."
On vault, there was a four-way tie for first place between Cyclones Dethloff and Janet Anson and Hawkeyes Kortny Williamson and Alexis Maday (9.90). Dethloff matched her season-high score in the event.
Matching her career-high score and winning the uneven bars competition was Dethloff, along with
"Our bars routine was really strong tonight," Kindler said. "We were solid, clean and consistent everywhere else."
Dethloof took first once again on balance beam with a career-high score of 9.95. Her score ranks no. 1 in school history. Anson, ISU senior Chee Chee Calinia and Stephanie Gran of
In a tie for first on floor were Maday and Dethloff (9.95). Dethloff matched her career-high score in the event. In third was sophomore Laura-Kay Powell (9.925). Senior Gabby Layne grabbed fourth by matching her career-high score of 9.90.
Dethloff won the all-around competition with a school record-breaking score of 39.7. Until tonight, the highest all-around score of a Cyclone gymnast had been 39.675 by Sissy Huey. Hawkeye Maday came in second (39.650) and ISU's Anson took third (39.525).
