Cyclone Soccer Blanks Colorado College, 2-0

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State women's soccer team got goals from freshman Leslie Hill and sophomore Renee de St. Aubin to shutout Colorado College 2-0 on Sunday at the ISU Soccer Complex. The Tigers came in with a 5-0-0 record and defeated No. 18 Nebraska on Friday but the Cyclone defense was too much, keeping Colorado College from scoring for the first time this season. Iowa State improves to 4-2-1, while the Tigers drop to 5-1-0.

ISU sophomore goalkeeper Joanna Haig notched her second-consecutive shutout making it her fourth of the season. Haig, who now has six shutouts for her career, moves into sole possession of third place for shutouts in a career at Iowa State.

"This was clearly the most complete soccer game we have played all season," Iowa State head coach Rebecca Hornbacher said. "We've wanted to put together two solid halves as a team and everybody embraced and understood their roles today."

After getting several close looks in the first 40 minutes, ISU got on the board with 1:36 left in the half. Sophomore Brittanie Waddell launched a throw-in from the far sideline into a crowd of players in front of the goal. Freshman Elisa Berzins knocked the ball up the air and freshman Leslie Hill headed the ball in the back-left corner of the net for her first-ever goal in a Cyclone uniform. Waddell recorded her first point of the season while Berzins notched the first assist of her career.

Iowa State continued its dominance in the second half as Renee de St. Aubin scored for the third-consecutive game, putting the game away for good with 11 minutes to go in the match. The sophomore gained control of the ball in the top-center of the box and then fired the ball in the top-left corner of the net past Sills' out-stretched arms.

The Cyclones controlled all phases of the game, out-shooting the Tigers 20-5 and put pressure on Colorado College keeper Geneva Sills all day as she recorded a season-high 12 saves in the loss.

The Tigers came into the match only allowing one goal on the season and had recorded four shutouts in their five wins. Colorado College was shut out for the first time on the road since Oct. 3, 2004 at Arizona.

After playing five games in nine days, the Cyclones will have the week off before returning to action this Friday vs. Creighton in the Bulldog Bash in Des Moines.
