AMES, Iowa - Iowa State pitcher Amie Ford cashed in on her first career at bat, delivering a two-out RBI single in the seventh inning, to propel Iowa State past UNC Wilmington (9-10) in Charleston Southern Tournament action in Summerville, S.C.
With the win, Iowa State improves to 9-6 and advances to face Kennesaw State in the championship game.
Ford was called upon to pinch hit for Whitney Perkins with Cary Akins standing at third base with two-outs in the seventh inning and the score knotted at 2-2. Akins reached earlier in the inning on a double. Ford ripped a single to right field off of Seahawk pitcher Jennifer Bosley to score Akins and give the Cyclones a 3-2 win.
The Seahawks had tied the game in the top of the seventh on a Jess Luckett two-run home run.
Iowa State got on the board with runs in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 lead before Luckett's blast.
Fallon Johnson was in on both of the first two Cyclone runs, scoring on a passed ball in the first inning and a Katie Reichling double in the third.
Alyssa Ransom (4-3) allowed just two runs on six hits to pick up her fourth straight win.
