AMES, Iowa - Iowa State pounded out 10 hits and Alyssa Ransom and Amie Ford combined for a four-hitter to lead the Cyclones past South Dakota State, 10-1, in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader at Southwest Athletic Complex on Tuesday.
South Dakota State (18-27) jumped on Iowa State (21-22) in the first but the Cyclones bounced back and scored 10 unanswered runs to get the win.
Steph Kuhl's first inning single scored Tessie Winterton and put the Jackrabbits on top 1-0.
The lead wouldn't last long as Iowa State put four runs on the board in its half of the first.
Fallon Johnson reached on an infield single and advanced to third on a bunt single by Kristy Olsen. Johnson beat a throw home on a fielder's choice to tie the game at 1-1.
After Katie Reichling walked to load the bases, Jennifer Bigbee was hit by a pitch to score Olsen. SDSU pitcher Kiley Schwedhelm got Jessica Quade to pop out before pinch runner Whitney Perkins scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Stephanie Mosley, putting Iowa State on top 3-1. The Cyclones added another run on an infield single by Cary Akins.
ISU added solo runs in the second and third innings to increase the lead to 6-1.
After a scoreless fourth inning, Mosley roped a double to right center to plate Bigbee and make it 7-1.
The game ended in the sixth when ISU scored three runs to invoke the run rule.
Johnson led off the inning with an infield single and scored on a Killeen single. Katie Reichling hit a walkoff two-run homer, her fourth of the year, to complete the rout.
Ransom (11-12) got the win after tossing four innings and allowing just one unearned run on two hits. Ford struck out three and allowed just two hits in two innings of relief.
Schwedhelm (0-2) got the loss after allowing six runs on five hits.
Johnson, Killeen and Mosley each recorded two hits for ISU in the win. Killeen, Reichling and Mosley also drove in two runs in the game.
