AMES, Iowa - Ashley Killeen hit a single to break the Iowa State single-season record for runs batted in but the Cyclones stranded 11 runners on base and fell to Missouri, 8-3, in the first game of a Big 12 doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at the Southwest Athletic Complex.
Killeen, who entered the game with 38 RBI this season, singled in the second inning to score Fallon Johnson and break Lisa Leinen's record, which had stood since 1989.
The Tigers (21-22, 5-8 Big 12) took advantage of four runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to break open a tight ballgame that saw the Cyclones leading after three innings of play.
The Cyclones (22-23, 4-9 Big 12) pounced on the Tigers in the first when Jennifer Bigbee was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, allowing pinch runner Whitney Perkins to score.
After pitcher Jen Bruck homered in the second to knot the game up, ISU took the lead back on Killeen's single.
The Tigers' bats came alive in the fourth with a four hit rally that was highlighted by a two-run single by Jaci Schuyler and another RBI single by Sarah Stringer.
Amanda Renth doubled to score two runs and Schuyler picked up her third RBI of the game on a ground out in the fifth to take control of the game and put the Tigers on top 8-2.
Cary Akins singled in the sixth inning and scored on a ground out by Kristy Olsen to make it 8-3. That was all the closer the Cyclones would get as Bruck got Katie Reichling to ground out, ending the inning.
Jessica Quade went 2-for-4 to lead the Cyclones while Renth went 4-for-4 in the game to help the Tigers pick up the win.
Bruck (19-16) held Iowa State to just three runs on nine hits to get the win. Alyssa Ransom (11-13) was dealt the loss for the Cyclones.
