LAWRENCE, Kan. - Serena Settlemier tossed a complete game three hitter to help Kansas down Iowa State, 3-0, on Saturday at Arrocha Ballpark.
Kansas (30-24, 8-10 Big 12) touched the board for a run in the third inning. Heather Stanley reached on a single to open the inning and scored on an error that should have ended the inning, putting the Jayhawks on top 1-0.
The Jayhawks tacked on another two runs in the fourth as Stanley again provided the spark with a two-out single to score Nettie Fierros. KU would score another run on a single by Stevie Crisosto to make it 3-0.
The Cyclones (23-17, 5-13 Big 12) mounted a small rally in the seventh, putting runners on second and third with just one down, but Settlemier got the final two hitters to end the Iowa State threat.
Fallon Johnson, Ashley Killeen and Jessica Quade had the only hits for Iowa State, all of which were singles.
Amie Ford (10-12) got the loss for ISU, allowing three runs on five hits.
The Cyclones will continue play at the Big 12 Championships on Wednesday in Oklahoma City, Okla. at 5 p.m. against Oklahoma State.
