AMES, Iowa- While Iowa State dominated much of the second half, it was not enough to over come the Hawkeyes as Iowa's Kelsie Full scored a goal in the fifth minute of overtime to edge the Cyclones, 1-0, and tie the Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk series at two points apiece.
ISU had a number of scoring opportunities, including near misses by Leslie Hill, Elise Reid and Brittanie Waddell. Reid and Erin Witte each had three shots to lead the Cyclones offensively.
With the win, Iowa snapped ISU's two-game winning streak in the series. The Cyclones fall to 3-4-0 and the Hawkeyes improved to 3-2-1 on the season.
With the game scoreless at the half, Iowa State came out firing in the second half. Offensively, the Cyclones controlled much of the second half, but were unable to capitalize on their nine shots.
Late in the second half with 5:20 left on the clock, and still no score, Iowa State's Witte looked to have two golden opportunities. Her first shot from 10-yards out was blocked. She quickly found the rebound and her second shot nearly missed, flying just above the net.
Iowa's Melissa Kaetterhenry had five shots, all on goal, nearly doubling her season shot total. Iowa Goalkeeper Lindsey Boldt tallied eight saves on the Cyclones eight shots on goal.
ISU freshman Ann Gleason had a career-high nine saves in the overtime loss to Iowa, giving her a Big 12 Conference leading 38 saves.
Defenders Beth Passman and Kate Kirwan also added shots for the Cyclones and helped hold the back line, perserving the shutout through regulation.
The Cyclones next travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., and play in the Colorado College Invitational Friday and Sunday. Iowa State faces Weber State at 2:30 p.m. CST on Friday and Colorado College at 2:30 p.m. CST on Sunday.
