AMES, Iowa ? Members of three different Iowa State graduating classes scored goals on Senior Day to give the ISU soccer team (7-5-3, 3-3-1 Big 12) a 3-1 victory over Baylor (7-8-2, 1-6-1 Big 12), Sunday at the ISU Soccer Complex.
“Overall, I think the team went out there and wanted to give the seniors a win for our last home game of the season,” said ISU head coach Rebecca Hornbacher. “I'm pleased with where we're at right now. We've got some tough games on the road ahead of us, but we're going to enjoy this win while we have it right now. I think it was a great send-off for the seniors."
Sophomore Lauren Odino got the Cyclones on the board first in the 36th minute, collecting the rebound of Leslie Hill's blocked shot in the box, before depositing the loose ball into the top right corner of the net. Hill got the assist on the play.
Less than four minutes later, Jordan Bishop scored her second goal of the season. Elisa Berzins found Bishop in the middle of the box and the freshman went top shelf past Baylor goalkeeper Ashley Noah.
A senior got into the scoring act in the 67th minute with the help of a freshman. Bishop beat her defender to the left goal line before sending a perfect cross to Erin Witte, who was just two yards in front of the net to head the ball home.
Just over a minute later, Baylor's Katie White battled through a scramble in front of the ISU net before getting just enough behind her header to break up the Cyclone shutout. Nicky Smith sent the cross to earn the assist.
