HOUSTON, Texas ? Houston scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning to hand Iowa State a tough 2-1 loss Saturday afternoon in the Marriott Houston Hobby Invitational.
The Cyclones (3-11) and
The Cyclones got the scoring started in the top of the sixth as Kristy Olsen scored on a hard hit ball by Alex Johnson that bounced off the glove of Christa Raley, giving the Cyclones a 1-0 advantage heading into the bottom of the sixth.
The Cyclones threatened in the seventh, as Kristen Karanzias reached on an error with one out but ISU was unable to get her home, ending the game.
Kristy Olsen, Katie Reichling and Ariel Coburn each collected hits for the Cyclones. Coburn's hit, a double down the right field line in the fifth, was the lone extra base knock for the Cyclones.
Katie Reichling (0-2) got the loss in relief for the Cyclones, allowing two runs on three hits in an inning of work. Amie Ford was solid in the start, allowing no runs on four hits in 4.2 innings.
Candi Kloecker (1-2) got the win for
The Cyclones and Cougars will face off in a rematch Sunday morning at 9 a.m.
