No. 8 Oklahoma too much for Cyclones

NORMAN, Okla. ? The eighth-ranked Oklahoma gymnastics team put up solid performances, including a 10.0 on vault, taking down Iowa State 196.375-193.675 Friday night.
"We started on bars and had a rough time with two misses and that set the tone and we were trying to dig out of a hole the whole time," ISU coach Jay Ronayne said. "It was frustrating. Just when we needed something to happen we weren't getting it done. We have some individuals that are doing a nice job, we just need everyone clicking at the same time."
Oklahoma took the lead after the first rotation 49.300-48.200 behind a perfect 10 by Kiara Redmond-Sturms on vault. Jasmine Thompson led the Cyclones with a 9.850 while Nikki Dilbert added a 9.825 on the uneven bars.
Iowa State set a new season-high on vault in rotation two with a score of 48.850. Dilbert led the way with a 9.875, while Katie Sweetin, Ceilia Maccani and Megan Barnes each added scores of 9.750. Despite that, Oklahoma increased its lead, 98.500-97.100, after entering a 49.200 on bars.
The Cyclones ate into the Oklahoma lead in the third rotation, earning a 48.825 on floor, while the Sooners put together a 48.650 on the beam. Sweetin tied her season-high with a 9.850 while Thompson added a 9.825.
The Cyclones ended the meet by tallying a 47.750 on beam. Dilbert led with a career-best 9.825, while Maccani added a 9.775 for ISU. Oklahoma put together a score of 49.225 on floor to close out the win.
Oklahoma's Redmond-Sturms won the all-around competition by posting 39.500. Dilbert finished second with 39.275.
Iowa State will be back in action Friday, Feb. 22, when it plays host to Iowa as part of the Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series.
