Cyclones Upend NDSU, 4-2, In Eight Innings

FARGO, N.D. ? Iowa State scored two runs in the eighth inning to defeat North Dakota State, 4-2, Saturday afternoon at the Miken Dome Tournament in Fargo, N.D. With the win, ISU remains undefeated on the young season.
The Cyclones (2-0) led 2-0 after five innings but North Dakota State (1-1) scored a run in both the sixth and seventh to force extra innings.
In the extra frame, Kristy Olsen beat out a hit to shortstop for a single to lead off the inning. Kelsey Kidwell laid down a sacrifice bunt and NDSU third baseman Jackie Currie's throw sailed wide as Olsen raced around the bases to score from first. Kidwell would come in to score on a sacrifice fly by Amanda Bradberry.
Rachel Zabriskie (2-0) closed out the win despite allowing a leadoff walk to Elisa Victa in the eighth. Zabriskie allowed four hits and one run through three innings after throwing a no-hitter in the season opener against UW-Green Bay earlier in the day. The Austin, Texas native relieved Charissa Carlin, who pitched well for Iowa State, allowing just one run through five innings in picking up a no-decision.
Iowa State had eight hits compared to 11 for the Bison but NDSU was hurt by a pair of errors.
The Cyclones scored two in the second as transfer Jacquelyn Beatty crushed a home run to left field in her first at-bat as a Cyclone. Beatty finished 2-for-3 in the game with a double and a home run.
Ariel Coburn and Olsen joined Beatty with two hits in the game for the Cyclones.
Taylor Lynn led NDSU, going 3-for-3 in the game.
The Cyclones will face UW-Green Bay and North Dakota State again on Sunday. First pitch for the games is 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
