DENTON, Texas ? North Texas scored six third-inning runs and held off Iowa State, 7-4, handing the Cyclones their second loss of the season Friday afternoon at the Sleep Inn Classic.
Both teams scored early with North Texas taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first and Iowa State (10-2) responding to tie it in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly by Amanda Bradberry.

Iowa State got three back in the top of the fifth to cut into the lead. Kelsey Kidwell brought home Carrie Monroe with a ground out and Courtney Wray doubled to left field to score Bianca Lopez and Anna Bortz, trimming the deficit to 7-4.
The Cyclones threatened in the top half of the seventh inning as Bianca Lopez and Kelsey Kidwell reached base to lead off the inning. The threat took a big hit as Carleigh Berry lined into a double play to retire Lopez at second. Wray popped out to short to end the game and the Cyclones' three-game winning streak.
Charissa Carlin (4-1) started for the Cyclones and took the loss. Carlin gave up seven runs, one of which was earned, in 2.2 innings. Rachel Zabriskie kept the Cyclones alive in relief, giving up no runs in 3.1 innings and striking out four.
The Cyclones had just three hits in the game, one of which came from Sydni Jones. Jones' hit streak is now at a career-best eight games.
Jennifer Smith (3-1) got the win for North Texas.
Iowa State will return to action Saturday at 10 a.m. against Central Arkansas.
