Cyclones Rally To Beat Nebraska, 4-3

LINCOLN, Neb. ? Iowa State defeated Nebraska, 4-3, Thursday afternoon at Bowlin Stadium to pick up its first win in Lincoln since 1995. The Cyclones avenged a 10-0 five-inning setback to the Huskers on Tuesday afternoon in Ames to pick up their second Big 12 win of the season.
Iowa State (20-24, 2-8 Big 12) recovered after giving up three runs first-inning runs. The Cyclones scored one in the second and three in the third to knock off the Huskers.

The Huskers scored three in the first inning, which was highlighted by Amanda Duran's three-run homer over the scoreboard in left field. Duran's fourth homer of the year scored Darcy Rutherford and Kelli Linke.
Iowa State cut into the lead with three hits in the second inning. Kelsey Kidwell drove in Amanda Bradberry with a two-out single up the middle to make it 3-1 Nebraska.
The Cyclones had three more hits and three more runs in the third inning, taking advantage of a costly error by Husker hurler Molly Hill. Carleigh Berry reached second on Hill's error and Courtney Wray beat out an infield hit to give ISU runners on first and second with no outs.
Alex Johnson kept things rolling, ripping a double down the right field line to score Berry. After Hill got Sydni Jones to pop out, Bradberry reached on a fielder's choice and came around to score along with Johnson on Heidi Kidwell's single to left field. Hill got Carrie Monroe to ground out, ending the threat with ISU leading 4-3.
Nebraska (29-12, 6-6) had two runners in the fifth and sixth and one in the seventh but Zabriskie (13-19) was able to get out of trouble each time to pick up her 13th win of the season, snapping the Cyclones' season-long seven-game losing streak.
Zabriskie scattered eight hits while striking out five in the game. The three runs she allowed were all unearned.
All nine batters had a hit for the Cyclones with Heidi Kidwell driving in two runs to lead the way.
Hill (19-8) took the loss for Nebraska, giving up four runs and striking out three.
The Cyclones will return to action Saturday at 2 p.m. when they host Oklahoma State in Big 12 action at the Southwest Athletic Complex.
