Cyclones Prevail Against Iowa 8-2

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. ? Iowa State got three-RBI games from Erica Miller and Courtney Wray to lead Iowa State to an 8-2 victory over Iowa Saturday evening at the Metrodome Softball Classic. Iowa State improves to 2-2 on the season.
The Cyclones posted their first win over Iowa since a 4-3 victory on April 16, 2003 and ISU recorded eight runs against the Hawkeyes for the first time since an 8-7 victory on April 20, 1983.
Heidi Kidwell led off the first inning for the Cyclones with a single. After a base hit by Alex Johnson, Sydni Jones plated the first run of the game, bringing Kidwell home on a single. Miller then blasted her first career home run for the Cyclones to give ISU a 4-0 lead after the first frame.
The Hawkeyes cut the lead in half in the top of the third, as Katie Brown hit a two-run home run. Iowa State restored its four-run lead in the bottom half of the inning as Wray had a two-run triple that brought home Jones and Bianca Lopez and make the score 6-2.
Wray was at the plate with the bases loaded in the fourth and was walked to increase the lead to 7-2.
In the fifth, Carleigh Berry recorded an RBI-double to bring home Heidi Kidwell to make the score 8-2.
On the mound, Rachel Zabriskie (2-2) posted her second complete game of the season, giving up two runs on six hits and striking out eight.
Iowa State resumes play tomorrow morning as it takes on Arkansas at 9 a.m.
