MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. ? Iowa State out hit Arkansas, 11-6, but the Razorbacks made the most of their hits to defeat the Cyclones, 4-2, Sunday at the Metrodome Softball Classic. With the loss, Iowa State falls to 2-3 overall.
Arkansas put three runs on the board in the first, highlighted by a two-run homer by Brittany Griffiths. Miranda Dixon had a run-scoring single to open the scoring as the Razorbacks got to ISU pitcher Rachel Zabriskie.
The Razorbacks added another run in the third on a solo shot by Samantha Brewer to make it 4-0.
Iowa State narrowed the gap in the fourth with a pair of runs. Heidi and Kelsey Kidwell had RBI singles in the inning as the Cyclones trimmed the deficit to 4-2.
The Cyclones had runners on in the sixth and seventh innings but were unable to light up the scoreboard.
Carleigh Berry went 3-for-4 to lead the Cyclones. Heidi Kidwell, Kelsey Kidwell and Erica Miller each collected two hits in the loss.
Zabriskie (2-3) took the loss for the Cyclones, giving up four runs on six hits.
The Cyclones will close out tournament play against Minnesota at 1 p.m.
