Cyclones Rally To Beat Minnesota, 6-5

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. ? Iowa State scored two runs in the seventh inning to rally and defeat Minnesota, 6-5, Sunday in the final game of the Metrodome Softball Classic. The Cyclones improve to 3-3 this season.
The Cyclones led 4-1 heading into the sixth inning, but Minnesota (3-3) put four runs on the board to take its first lead of the game heading into ISU's final at bat.
The Cyclones had an answer, getting run-scoring singles from Sydni Jones and Dalyn Varela to regain the lead. Rachel Zabriskie (3-3) closed the door on the Gophers in the bottom half of the seventh, sending the home team down in order to pickup the win.
Iowa State got on the board early with Courtney Wray delivering a two-run double that scored Heidi Kidwell and pinch runner Amandine Habben in the first inning. Habben pinch ran for Erica Miller, who ran her hitting streak to four games with a single.
Heidi Kidwell increased the ISU lead to 3-0 in the second inning with a single that plated Kelsey Kidwell.
Minnesota got a run back in the third inning, but Amanda Bradberry responded with a solo homer in the top of the fourth to make it 4-1.
The Gophers finally got to ISU starter Tori Torrescano in the sixth with Kari Dorle hitting a two-run double to make it 4-3. Minnesota added two more in the inning to take the lead before the Cyclones' final at bat.
Heidi Kidwell, Kelsey Kidwell and Courtney Wray each had two hits for the Cyclones, who held a 10-7 edge in hits.
Zabriskie tossed one and a third innings to pick up her third win. The junior didn't allow a hit and struck out two in relief.
The Cyclones will return to action next Friday when they travel to Houston, Texas for the Marriott Houston Invitational. ISU will face Purdue at 9 a.m. in the first game.
