Cyclones Cruise Past Cal Poly For Fourth-Straight Win

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Rachel Zabriskie tied the school record for career strikeouts and tossed a complete game to lead Iowa State to a 6-2 win over Cal Poly Saturday afternoon at the Mustang Classic. The Cyclones, who have won four in a row, improve to 13-11 this season.
Zabriskie (12-6) scattered five hits and struck out seven batters to tie Courtney Dully's (1994-97) record with 495 career strikeouts.
The Cyclones and Mustangs finally got on the board in the fourth, trading a pair of two-run homers in the inning.
After Krysten Cary homered off Zabriskie in the top of the fourth, Tori Torrescano blasted her second home run of the weekend to tie it. Torrescano's homer off Helen Pena scored Amandine Habben, who pinch ran for Erica Miller after she singled.
In the fifth, Cal Poly brought in Rebecca Patton and the Cyclones didn't waste any time getting to the reliever. Heidi Kidwell led off the inning with a single and came around to score on Courtney Wray's base hit, making it 3-2 in favor of ISU.
The Cyclones would add three more runs in the sixth before making way for Zabriskie to pick up her 12th win of the season.
Torrescano led the Cyclones, going 2-for-3 with two runs batted in. The freshman from San Diego, Calif., is 4-for-8 this weekend with six RBI in her first return to her home state.
Heidi Kidwell went 2-for-4 and scored two runs.
Patton (1-2) took the loss for the Mustangs, allowing four runs on four hits in two innings of relief work.
The Cyclones will continue action at 7 p.m. against Sacramento State.
