Cyclones Beat Creighton For Seventh-Straight Win

OMAHA, Neb. - Tori Torrescano and Rachel Zabriskie combined to toss a three-hitter as Iowa State defeated Creighton, 3-1, Tuesday afternoon in the second game of the doubleheader to run its winning streak to seven games. The Cyclones improve to 20-12 heading into this weekend's Big 12 opener at Texas Tech.
Creighton opened the scoring in the first on Amy Baker's single off Torrescano that scored Renae Sinkler.
Johnson picked Torrescano up in the second, blasting her fourth homer of the season and the 22nd of her career to tie it at 1-1.
The Cyclones broke up the tie the very next inning, putting two runs on the board to make it 3-1.
Kelsey Kidwell singled with one out and advanced to third on Heidi Kidwell's base hit. Bianca Lopez recorded the third-straight hit to score Kelsey Kidwell. Courtney Wray followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Heidi Kidwell.
That was all the Cyclones would need as Torrescano (4-3) and Zabriskie shut the Bluejays down the rest of the way.
Torrescano tossed 4.1 innings of three-hit ball to pick up her fourth win. Zabriskie earned her fourth career save, shutting out the Bluejays in 2.2 innings of work, while allowing no hits and striking out four.
Lopez and Wray had two hits each for the Cyclones, who out hit Creighton nine to three in the game.
Kylie Hovinga (1-2) suffered the loss for Creighton, giving up three runs on five hits in three innings of work.
The Cyclones open Big 12 play Saturday afternoon against the Red Raiders. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
