Eleven Personal Marks Set at ISU Qualifier

AMES, Iowa - Iowa State produced 11 personal bests at the NCAA Qualifier Saturday at the Lied Recreational Center, as the Cyclones looked to earn qualifying marks for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship meet next weekend. Junior Elphas Sang earned a provisional qualifying time in the 800-meter run with a clocking of 1:50.22, highlighting competition for Iowa State.
Sophomore Semehar Tesfaye finished first in the women's 5,000-meter run. Her time of 16:55.23 was also a new personal best, short of a provisional qualifying time by 11 seconds.
Sophomore Laishema Hampton led the Cyclones in the weight throw with a third-place finish (59-00.25). She was followed by Danielle Frere (57-00.00), Emily Nugent (52-10.00), and Britta Christofferson (52-9.50), placing fourth through sixth, respectively. Freshman Hayli Bozarth earned a personal record in the shot put with a throw of 47-07.75.
The ISU men's weight throw unit was led by junior Robbie Utterback, who finished fifth in the event with a distance of 56-01.00. The throw was also a new personal best for Utterback. Sophomore Mike Zika finished seventh with a throw of 55-01.00.
