STATSSIOUX FALLS, S.D.?The Iowa State soccer team statistically dominated South Dakota State Friday night but could not overcome a two-goal deficit en route to a 2-1 defeat.
Iowa State (5-3-2) held a 14-4 shot advantage, while South Dakota State (5-1-3) scored on its only two shots on goal. The Cyclones registered five shots on goal and also had four corner kicks to the Jackrabbit's three.
“We had some very unlucky breaks tonight,” Iowa State head coach
Wendy Dillinger said. “We played hard, battled hard and controlled the game. We had some great chances and good shots on goal. Their goalie came up big at some key times. South Dakota State is a good side who battled hard.”
The Jackrabbits sprung out to a two-goal lead after tallies in the in the 38th minute and at the 55:44 mark. South Dakota State received goals from Kelsey Ferguson and Kayla Braffet, respectively. Ferguson's goal was off a penalty kick.
Iowa State officially mounted its comeback effort when sophomore Megan Long headed in a goal off a corner kick from freshman
Emily Goldstein. Long's goal was the first of her career, while Goldstein recorded her team-leading second assist and sixth point of the season.
The Cyclones attempted in vain to find the equalizer, firing two shots to South Dakota State's none after Long's goal. However, the Cyclones' efforts were not rewarded.

Maddie Jobe did not record a save on the evening and her season record dropped to 5-3-1.
The Cyclones' next match will be their Big 12 opener when Kansas comes to the ISU Soccer Complex Sunday at 1 p.m.
